Still working on ideas for covers.

A book can become very successful with the right cover, sink without trace with the wrong one. I thought I had got the 'knack' of covers but have been struggling with this one. Maybe getting somewhere now but just want to try one more thing I think.

  2. This looks like it could be your best cover ever, it has such a quality about it plus a hint of nostalgia.
I REALLY can't wait to see how it turns out.

  3. Thanks John. Needs to be intriguing so that people want to open up and find out what is going on.

  4. I like the way the buildings fold around to the back cover and I can really picture the light streaming down from the lamp on that beautiful fur.
Quite timely in a way, I've been trying to think of a cover today too, but my imagination seems to have fizzled out and I've got stuck on one image that refuses to move aside to consider any others... and like you say, the cover sells the book doesn't it!

And I've set myself a deadline now of January (after the christmas chaos at work)to try and make appointments to show my dummy book... I'm hoping to have a first draft manuscript of my next idea (which I think will be a much better story)to take along as well to show as a work in progress hopefully...

Looking forward to seeing your alternative cover idea, its always fascinating to see your working process...
    Carrie... :)

  5. I love the idea of "stories" just walking down the street, waiting for you to meet them.

  6. I have both 'Tell Me a Dragon' and 'The Cat and the Fiddle' and I love the covers on both of them, they certainly made me want to explore inside as quickly as I could.
I have 'The Cat and the Fiddle' propped up on display in my living room as it's cover is just spellbinding. It is a wonderful book by the way, well worth exploring beyond the cover, your work is amazing.

  7. Love the one where the bear is walking away down the street. Now that is a book you would HAVE to open up!!

  8. So glad other people do that with books. I had Catherine Hyde's Princess's Blankets and Firebird propped up in my studio for ages. Some books are just so beautiful.

  10. Your illustrations are lovely! Would you mind telling me what medium you work in? It appears to be pencil and watercolor but it's hard to be sure.
