Inspiration

In something so small and very beautiful lies a story that stretches across an ocean to a land far away. It is a story of love, of craftsmanship, of beauty. When I sleep in my studio it comes to me in moments of dreaming. Time will tease it out. For me it began in Siop y Pobol, in St Davids. I wonder where it will end?

  1. The vase looks very well against the hour glass - who painted those fragile birds and was it Fire or Autumn that lent the artist her colours?
    Happy dreaming.

  2. I'd have pounced on this little treasure myself like a cat on a fat little mouse. It's exquisite! The painting is so beautifully done. This vase makes me wish again for a "psychometry" machine that you could use to see where the vase came from, when and where it was made, and how it ended up in Wales next to your hourglass. Whoever painted it was very talented. One wonders who they were and what their life was like.

  4. Jackie, I can't tell even from these lovely detail shots ... Satsuma pottery all has a crackle pattern in the background glaze. If this vase doesn't have the crackle pattern, it may be Kutani. Whichever it turns out to be, I'm sure that it is late 19th century ... very lovely.

  5. I had to smile as my Mother has an identical vase in her china cabinet. It probably belonged to my grandparents and I remember loving it as a child.
