On the beach and in the studio

On the beach today, a new dog. Huge paws, huge ears and plenty of growing to do but soft as butter and beautiful.
In the studio, weasels. Between each photograph, one hour of painting.

  1. What an armful of cuddles! And the weasels made me laugh in my coffee.

(I've sent a card to the shoe shop for Glyn.)

  2. A quick weasel story for you. My neice was visiting from Africa and a friend and I took her up to the woods for a picnic. My friend and I were up the river a bit, building a cairn, when my neice appeared and said there was a strange animal in our picnic hamper. We asked her what it looked like and she said it was brown with a white belly and a short tail and was full of spit and vinagar. We both immediately thought of a chipmunk, which is very common hereabouts but she said, No, she knew what a chipmunk was and it wasn't that. So we went back to our picnic site on the bank of the river. At first we didn't see any animal, but soon, a small weasel came darting out of the bushes chattering at us and investigating our bounty. It was totally fearless, rifling through the hamper, burrowing under towels and untying our shoelaces. We were quite captivated by this brazen little hussy.
Once we got home, we looked it up and found out it was a female short-tailed weasel. A delightful little snapper!

  3. Wonderful, and such pretty big paws. I told an editor and a writer about your illustrations, thinking of book covers.
