Of Cakes and Covers

Early morning painting as the sun came up. The front cover is almost finished now. Almost, not quite and still the back cover to do.

Meanwhile the scent of chocolate cake lingers from yesterday as the cake was left to cool in my studio, safe from the teeth of hungry dogs.

  1. so much movement, and musical as well, intense. Fantastic! and the cake....deep, dark, divine!

  2. I'm sure that's a baby kangaroo on your chocolate cake!

  3. My secret is out! This is how I do all my work. It is like divination through chocolate cake. Looks like a wolf curled around a girl's head to me. Or a baby armadillo.

  5. I'm imaging all kinds of things in the chocolate cake, including my taste buds... I LOVE the clock/time drawing... like a merry-go-round of creatures, and I hear the strange music. I might have to go find some yummy chocolate cake now...

  6. I agree with Valerianna - I can hear music from your painting. Your cake looks gilded. Mmmmm, gilded chocolate cake. Fit for a Queen.

  7. Funny-I saw a rabbit(in your case, a hare) in that cake.
And on that subject - years ago, when the late Josh was young and a little bit naughty, he wore a collar with a beep-beep electronic warning, a flashing red light AND a regular cat bell.None of these saved my chocolate cake!

  8. The covers are looking great! I would have pored over those fantastical riders for hours as a child, and probebly still would now! Such liveliness and joy in them...
So is it 3rd time lucky then?

  9. I'm sure it's the way the photograph has caught the color, but the cake looks golden to me, like a nugget - I imagine it to be rich and moist and fudge-y.

  10. The cake is gilded with caterers gold dust. It shines. And on the first day is moist and light but if it survives to the second day it changes into something very like a truffle cake, rich, dark and fudgey! The smell of it cooling filled my studio.

  11. I LOVE chocolate cake, Jackie!!!

Like WOL, I thought the cake looked a bit golden. Now I want a bite of it that much more after reading how you got it that way!

    Mmmmmm......
